The "Art Gallery Town"
September 25th, 2010Went on a little adventure with C, the other day...first to PB Boulangerie and Bistro, in Wellfleet. Had read and heard so many great reviews of the pastries, etc. We ate outside and had lovely little portions of quiche lorraine and split a croissant. The cappuccino was especially good, with a fabulous creamy, thick foam. Then headed to Wellfleet center, and visited a gallery--the Brophy's Fine Art Gallery--a very talented group of artists are exhibiting there, including Judy Harmon, Robert Cardinal and Ronald Tinney. Wellfleet has a number of excellent galleries and has gotten it's title as, "the art gallery town" because of this...After visiting several shops, we drove to the Wellfleet harbor, where the sun was shimmering on the water...a perfect ending to a great visit to this charming, funky seaside village.
Yoga Bear
September 17th, 2010I just printed out photos of Santra, a supple brown bear at the Ahtari Zoo in Finland. She is pictured in 6 different yoga-type poses and did a 15 minute session for zoo visitors to observe. I found this article in "The Daily Mail", the UK online newspaper. The photos are amazing and fun to see--you have to smile. I was so happy to find them after learning that Christine O'Donnell has become a newly elected Delaware GOP Senate nominee. Like so many of the grassroots, ultra conservative Tea Party candidates, she likes to interpret and quote the Bible and has come up with some very outrageous, worrisome statements.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are telling their TV audiences to reserve rooms in Washington, D.C. area hotels, as they are each planning rallies on October 30th--although satirists, it appears Colbert's, "Keep Fear Alive" and Stewarts, "Rally to Restore Sanity" are for real and will happen, making opposing political statements against the Tea Party. Hooray...this makes me smile, too.
The Hurricane
September 6th, 2010Hurricane Earl dissapated and left Cape Cod unscathed...but, my partner, R., created his own waves in the homestead. He purchased a "Droid" phone, by Verizon, the afternoon the storm was supposed to hit. We listened intently to the information given us at the Verizon Shop in Hyannis, by a very well groomed young man who had an accent that was difficult to understand...he also wasn't sure what we were saying. But, he persevered in answering every question asked, as a light sweat broke out on his upper lip. R. had been on a "mission" to get this possession, but, was very quiet on the ride home-- just as he had been when he purchased a mini notebook computer that went back to the store quickly. He couldn't wait to learn all aspects of the "Droid", but, had to go online, as there is no printed booklet that accompanies it. His personality is one that wants immediate results and he has little patience with anything falling short of that. Therefore, the poor little gadget was smashed a few times. Luckily, I was out of the area when Hurricane R hit. His grumbling and frustration reached a fever pitch that night as he wouldn't stop complaining about it not working correctly, as he attempted different functions. My only imput was to tell him he expected too much of himself, too quickly--read and follow the directions. To my great relief, the "storm" subsided the following day, when he mastered it completely and then, amazingly enough, made a leather holster for it. To all thinking of purchasing, it's extemely rugged...
